~Awake 2~

by Sarah Mahina Calvello~

awake
only partly
drifting on the edge
I can't forget you
I've been waiting
the pale sun
blows cold
plays in rainbows
through my window
inside dreams
like the edge of an echo
a break
in the cool chaos

leaves on the tree
reach out
like dark, trembling fingers
when you drink too much of the sun
all you get are trees
gazing across
all the wasted years
the past needs to die
I need help to say goodbye

when you come out of a storm
you won't be the same
person who walked in
thats what this storms about

~Closer~

    ~Closer~
    ~by Sarah Calvello~

sad bowls of fruit
curves of tears
makes me pause
if you look closer
what would you see

you come through my door
take an unwelcome look around
you hand me a tupperware
as plastic as you are
you tell me
"oh, these are the cookies
that I forgot to offer you
waiting for another wonder
I'm not broken
just bent
it has to get better

~Ice~

~Ice~
~by Sarah Calvello~

    angry gray swirls
in the distance
charcoal smudges
of trees
spread out
close but apart

somehow it seems
if I just dream
you would be here again
to show me again
but your not
I'm just left here
trying to forgive
no one
to teach me how to
live again
in this snow burn
of winter

twisted every way
you were cold and monumental
what answer can I give?

gazing across
all the wasted years
the past needs to die
I need help to say goodbye

when you come out of a storm
you won't be the same
person who walked in
thats what this storms about
a star is a star
no matter where it shines
its not always about where you're going to stay
its about where you're going
I'm wide awake
so what's the point of dreaming
lonely ice burns glisten

~About Me Post~

~I thought I'd do an "About Me" post so you would know who is writing these ramblings. My name is Sarah Calvello, and I'm is a 28 year old student at City College. I'm an aspiring and published writer who loves my dog, and enjoys writing and going to cafes.

~Memory~

Sarah Calvello | Memory

remember, if I cut you off its because you gave me

the scissors

sometimes you never know the true value of a

moment until it becomes a memory

you served me fish soup

as tasteless and bare as our distant relationship

pieces of white fish floating helplessly and alone

in plain green broth

too much time has passed

we haven’t talked in years

nothing

then you come force yourself on us

an unwanted wind

with no real point

love is just a word until you find someone to give

it a definition

you can’t teach me what you don’t know

there’s no getting back our memories

how can we try?

~Egyption Dream~

~Egyption Dream~
by Sarah Calvello

Egyptian Dream a woman of blue feathers and musk stares with liquid, black eyes wet onyx trembles in the night she flies over the pale golden sands the moon her pale song a wail in the night she walks on the sand beside the sphinx and looks at him with dark eyes nothing will ever change together, they turn to face the sun awaiting dawn
Take me river, carry me far, lead me river, like a mother, take me over to some other unknown, put me me in the undertow

~Apples and Orchids~

Apples and Orchids
by Sarah Calvello

Take my open hand
Stained only slightly with dirt
Apples and orchids
thats what you said we could plant
beside each other

the orchid roots
are wound around each other
like a spun mandala
of snakeskin
faded velvet
rough to the touch
under the faded sun
the wind in shivering whispers to our skin
a kiss on the forehead
is the sweetest sigh
Love is just a word until you find someone to give      it a definition
Speak the truth, even if your voice shakes
