~Hummingbird Rain~

Hummingbird Rain
by Sarah Mahina Calvello

the smell and the feel of the warm may grass
that is what is on my mind
like warm flowery fruit
vanilla coffee and a friend
the pale sun strong
through the paintbrush trees
shadows on the ground like a open fan

startling after a heavy rain
I turn to see a green hummingbird
small body darting through the wet leaves and flowers
folding and dipping
with an invisible wind
like a small shuddering sigh

these are the good moments,
the ones that matter,
the moments that keep me from falling apart
you can dip
don't worry about the fall

~Oranges~

by Sarah Mahina Calvello

Oranges
If you do not hope, you will not find what is beyond your hopes.
St. Clement of Alexandra~

what crumbles brakes
the sun was pale
but it was shining

I peeled my oranges
the juices wrap around my fingers
like velvet skin
watching the swirls of dark gold
wrap around the crumbling chocolate dirt
there's always something shining underneath
if you look hard enough

~Honey~

by Sarah Mahina Calvello

     somewhere there's honey
sometimes feelings get dirty
but there's still sunlight in your hair

~Moonlight Shone~

by Sarah Mahina Calvello

were all in the same damn boat
she's moonlight shined
fireflies find you tonight

Violets

by Sarah Mahina Calvello

turns out you don't have to see it all
might want to close your eyes for this
violets wrap around themselves in the quiet

~Carlos~

by Sarah Mahina Calvello

you picked up my owl globe music box
and shook it until it snowed
icy sparkles slowly glinting down
falling with no sound

eyes wide
and soft brown
with memories
shadow of a smile
and asked where my other music boxes were
the better memories that were lost
the thin line
between past and present
nothing forgotten
like glass; lovely and easily shattered

echos of laughter and the past
fall like glass
delicate  trembling curves
sometimes the feelings inside get messy like dirt
the thing about reality
is that your always waiting
for the next day

~Limbo~

~Limbo~
        ~by Sarah Mahina Calvello~

empty pizza box
on the floor
like a crumpled newspaper
cold floor
the smell lingers
like a pungent memory
like something you're ashamed of
   I'm sorry
I put you through this with me

the floor is too cold now
it feels dirty and crawling
so sad
my life has come to this
my only comfort
is the new light
through the trees

its not even called sleep anymore
it is called Limbo
and my back is screaming
for your touch
for something good
in this Limbo
of a new morning

~Break~

 Break
 by Sarah Mahina Calvello

   Your trembling fingers
your amazing soul
it still surprises me
I trace myself on you with my fingers
its velvet the smile I used to know
entrances and haunts
at the same time

be paitent
when it seems things are not going right
and may never be going right again
accept what is your's
and it will come to you in the right way
ing the right moment

the releasing sigh
of a flower finally opening
a break
in the cool chaos
like a heartbeat
echo's of what was
