~After Image~

~After Image~
glancing up
I see you through the mirror panes
of the bus
you had the same clothes
if it was even you

the sea green dog eared shirt
the bombers jacket
the bent over body of someone surrendering
with your ruddy face
map of
cracked, dry lines
wide blue glass eyes
you looked at me
without blinking
the bus drove away
and I was unfeeling
the after image
burns my memory
the minute you struggle
that’s when you fall
which illusion
will you chose

~Blue Girl~

~Bluegirl~

you put a rose in my book
when I was reading
just to see me smile
to see my face lighten
for a brief moment

the rose was called Bluegirl
timid and graceful
impatient and twisting
in a trembling shadow
in the pale light

blushing and soft
tea roses
to warm up
our dark corners

fingers tremble
on velvet perfume
starry blooms
leaving a
periwinkle stain
violet and pale

no longer a wonderer
you have to really accept my flowers
you have to really see me
if you act like you belong
no one will question you

the Blue Girls
are violet and blue
are sighing twinkling lights
you only want enough clarity

to trigger the vividness

~Frosted Moonlight~

By Sarah Mahina Calvello
“Frosted moonlight….”-Lewis Carroll
On the day when
the weight deadens
on your shoulders
and you stumble,
remember me
a snowy morning
frosted moonlight
shivers in icey circles
with your breath
a braid of frost
and felt
mats
of twisted blue flowers
winking and nodding
in the wind
the sky swirls
and shivers
purple and jealous
curves of angels
and lilly sharp
icicles
in the silence
of chaotic dreams
help me to find balance
a flock of colors,
indigo, red, green,
and azure blue
frays
and fades
come to awaken you in
a stain of ocean
blackens beneath you,
a path of yellow moonlight
to bring you safely home.
coils of our breath
in a lonely hug
let me borrow
some warmth from you
and turn ice to fire
secret ghosts
of memory
frosted moonlight
to lead you safely home

~White Roses~

~White  Roses~

“I am not what happened to me , I am what I chose to become”-Carl Jung

the glass beauty
finally broke
petals of glass
a new sigh
basking in
the reflected glory
of childhood

red mournful lips
china blue eyes
and unspoken words
you wanted me to see
Snow White
to still believe in magic

I was wondering
why you wanted me to miss Micheal Jackson
but I understand now
you wanted me to hold on to
the fragile shell
of innocence
white roses
in the dark debris
you stand against the tide
and that is no small thing
you're a thief
regal
and ragged
like a rose petal

~The Man in the Moon~

~The Man in the Moon~
~by Sarah Mahina Calvello~

fans of green
and jagged brown hearts
in the bouncing sunlight
and secret velvet
sounds of water
and ice tea
in tinkling yellow glasses
peeling oranges
soft skin
hugging the dirt
in it's fall

a young girl
loves for the first time
eyes jade and dangerous
tousled hair
and a shy smile
do you even know
what your hiding?
nothing ever
goes away
until we know
what were hiding

~Magnolia~

I smelled a magnolia for the first time today
on a overhanging tree
of green and brown leaves
hang like fallen stars
with their creamy heads down in shame

I always pass by
but I
never thought to actually reach up
and smell it
to lay my nose
in its blushing cream bulb
rose veins sent out
to fade and hang
like stars
and forgotten dreams

you said
I had palm tree eyes
I almost saw you
but the sun got in the way

~Thank you!~
